JJA226 Whooping Crane - Grus americana - Grue blanche - Status: endangered.

Fine-art print on watercolor paper, reproduction of the work of J.J. Audubon. The best professional technologies available today are used for this very high quality print, guaranteeing its durability for several generations.

The original work was produced by the American ornithologist, naturalist and painter Jean-Jacques Audubon (1785-1851), for the book The Birds of America published between 1827 and 1838.

In this book, each ornithological plate was engraved using the aquatint process, by Robert Havell Sr. and Robert Havell Jr, then hand-colored. The birds are depicted in life size, making The Birds of America the largest antique illustrated book in the world (double-elephant-folio size, approximately 96 × 66 cm).
