At the Great Stupa of Bodhnath, the great Tibetan Buddhist master Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche is joined by some of the incarnate lamas who gathered in Nepal in 1977 to receive an extensive cycle of teachings from him. The different ceremonial hats worn by the lamas are characteristic of the traditions to which they belong. Khyentse Rinpoche himself is wearing the 'Lotus Crown,' which resembles the hat worn by Guru Padmasambhava. The gold of the stupa's pinnacle, gleaming brightly in the morning sun, was offered by a wandering Tibetan yogi, Shabkar, in 1821.
