Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche and his entourage crossing the Tsangpo River (Brahmaputra) in a flat-bottomed boat on the way to Samye Monastery. The boat has to cross the wide river in zig-zags to avoid the many sandbanks. Opposite Khyentse Rinpoche sits an old monk, holding a vacuum flask, who had accompanied Khyentse Rinpoche on his visits to the sick in Lhasa in the late 1950s before his escape from Tibet. Tibet, 1985.
